Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1993 17:31:20 +0200
COUNTRY: UK / England
TOWN: Oxford
NAME: Shankar
SEX/AGE: Male/26
ACCOMMODATION: Would have to share my graduate room.
LOCATION: City Centre
MAX GUESTS: One or Two only. This depends on the degree of
overcrowding at the graduate residence. Again
I might change my room when my lease ends or
on finding better bargains and I cannot predict
the conditions there.
MAX LENGTH: This depends on wether it is term time or vacation time.
The maximum length of stay could be 4-5 days.
EXPENSES: Shared costs of food etc. are similar to that of a
graduate students daily expense. I do not know about
the other expenses my guest may be contemplating.
(At present I do not have a phone in my room).
RESTRICTIONS: Strictly nonsmoking, nonalcoholic. I do not like
tight lipped anti-socials, people with wierd
hair styles, clothes and lifestyles. The persons
I stay with, should have some idea about South Asian/
Indian customs. (I do not want nasty shocks, that's
all !!).
EXPECTATIONS: I am looking forward to sharing my experiences and
knowing more people, those who are frank, open and
friendly, around the world (especially academics
and students). I would not mind giving all reasonable
help possible (within a students capacity) to my
guest, including helping the person around the city
and the University.
LANGUAGES: English (fluent), Malayalam (fluent),
Hindi (can understand)
THE HOST: I am a Dhil (doctorate) student at the Univ. of Oxford.
My course lasts till Oct. 1995 minimum.
I am a mechanical engineer.
I graduated from Kerala University in south
india (1989) and at present, am on an Oxford University
scholarship. My present field of study in Oxford
is related to analysing mechanical power flows
in structures, excited at high frequencies.
I am 26, male and 5'9.5' tall.
HOBBIES: travelling and seeing places (especially historic places),
reading and discussing topics on science/engineering,
practical engineering, also world history and current
events. I like taking long walks, punting and boating
in the Oxford canals etc. I play tennis and
badminton occasionally, but I am not a keen sportsman.
Most of all, I like meeting people from different
countries and cultures, to share experiences
and to know more about them and their lands.
I am especially keen in meeting academics/students
anyway related to my fields of interest and studies.
